Wi-Fi Comstar is the project, which is being implemented by Comstar United Telesystems in co-operation with Fujitsu Siemens Computers, Intel and RosBusiness Consulting.
The aim of Project Wi-Fi Comstar is to establish many points giving wireless access to the Internet, thus enabling all those who have portable computers (notebooks or palmtops) supporting Intel Centrino technology, to use them comprehensively to access the network in the majority of public and business centers in Moscow.
As part of the Project, Comstar United Telesystems offers the owners of business centers, hotels, restaurants, cafйs, trade and exhibition complexes and other public centers mutually beneficial co-operation, which allows the provision of Internet Wi-Fi access services to their customers or visitors.
In order to implement Internet Wi-Fi access services, Comstar will establish a special Wi-Fi area (a Hot-Spot) on a site, within which the Internet would be easy, quick and comfortable to access for your visitors or customers. It is planned that more than 200 hot-spots will be established within two years as part of Project Wi-Fi Comstar.

Comstar United Telesystems owns an optical network covering the whole of Moscow. This allows to build networks in as short time as possible for wireless access to the Internet on any sites, with a high quality of communications guaranteed, with Comstar carrying out a full range of activities, such as:
- Network engineering with regard for the radio coverage area and architecture/construction specific features of the building;
- Connection of a hot-spot to the operator’s communications grid using various technologies (fiber optic communications channels, wireless access, ADSL, etc.);
- Testing and installation of the network and radio equipment;
- Agreeing of all types of documentation with the regulatory authorities.
Comstar ensures that technical support to a hot-spot is provided on a 24*7*365 basis; that a system of mutual settlements with end users is convenient and that the initiatives of a public hot-spot owner receive advertising/information support.
Given the growth in the needs of modern business community, the participants of the Project will make all the necessary resources available for expansion and upgrade of the existing hot-spots.
Co-operation Options
There are various options of co-operation with the landlords as part of Project Wi-Fi Comstar.
Establishment of a Wi-Fi Hot-Spot for the Account of Comstar United Telesystems.
Comstar will bear all costs related to the establishment of a hot-spot, in which case your visitors will be charged for access to the Network. The landlord can get a commission fee from selling the Wi-Fi Comstar Cards. This option is most attractive to business centers, hotels, transit lounges.
Establishment of a Wi-Fi Hot-Spot for the Account of a Customer.
The owner of the premises will pay for the establishment of a hot-spot and will make a monthly payment for the use of the services. In this case the visitors can access the Internet free of charge. This option is best suited for the owners of cafйs, bars, restaurants, car show rooms and medical centers, i.e. the sites where the visitors could stay relatively long while being attended to.
Establishment of a Wi-Fi Hot-Spot for a Customer’s Own Needs.
In this case, the owner of the premises will pay for the establishment of a hot-spot and will make a monthly payment for the use of the services at special rates applicable to corporate users.
Such solution can be employed as an alternative to a hard-wire local network in an office or business center. A notebook equipped with a Wi-Fi adapter will serve as a back-office through which the data required could be obtained at the right time. With a hot-spot installed, for instance, in a conference hall, your employees or visitors would be able to connect to the local Wi-Fi network to access the Internet or to get the data off the network drives. This option is best suited for the provision of high-speed access to the Internet in big areas, such as large office centers, hotels, exhibition halls, etc.
What will your customers or visitors get?
Simplicity and mobility is what Wi-Fi technology-based access to the Internet is all about. Connection procedure is similar to the dial-up Internet, but no wires or modems need to be used. While in a public place where a Wi-Fi area is installed, your customers and visitors would be able to access the Internet using their notebook or palmtop, and get the following:
- Access to a full spectrum of usual Internet services (e-mail, news, chats, access to a corporate network, etc.) at a rate of up to 11 Mbps;
- Ability to move around within the building while working in the Internet;
- Minimum time of connection to the provider.
